That's DeWitte's cat Cleo. Not a very ladylike way to sleep if you ask me. She slept like that for so long, I went out to check if she was still breathing. She was. Then she couldn't be bothered to move, so you had to step over her. She's stuck up like that.

When she finally could bother to move, to come inside to eat, because that's all she does is eat and sleep..she's 419 years old in cat years, I found her here when I sat down at my computer..

Peek-A-Boo

She startled me so bad when I went to sit down, the chair tried to roll away from me and I came this close () to landing on my ass. Lucky I've got plenty of butt padding should she deside that the top of my monitor is her new favorite sleeping spot. It certainly is closer to her food.

Warms My Heart Wednesday..

Yeah, I'm starting my own thing. I'd do the Things on Tuesday (or is it Two for Tuesday?) but unless you count having so many creative Halloween ideas, I'm tripping over them, I don't really have anything to complain about. Being creative makes me feel fantastic.

So, this is something that warms my heart each and every time I see it...

Playing-Cars

DeWitte playing cars with Nathan on the floor. DeWitte is such a good dad.

What was especially nice about yesterday was that they were playing with a new horse trailer/truck thing that Nathan saved his allowance for months to buy and then sent away for. Patience and saving are hard lessons to learn, I'm really proud of him.

Yeah, i did it. I look like a scene kied due to the fresh coat of dye but by three washes, it'll look normal.

And I had to blog it!!

I like the idea because it bring backs old memories with my sister when we would be having a conversation. Nice sister chat, right? Except she would be staring at a huge pimple on my face. Then I have to go "I KNOW WHAT UR LOOKING AT!" and she would say "I can't help it takes up half yo' face!" Then we would go obsessively scrub our pores in fear of another huge pimple. I had pretty bad case of pimples when I was a young teenager. It went away when I got into the late teens, early twenties. Ohh ahh, memories. Ahem. Anyway, Enjoy the video!

The Dry Rainforest

The whole reason I came to downtown was to see this butterfly rainforest. They had a sloth too but it was sleeping and so far up I couldn't photograph it. They had so many neat things and by the time I left it was pouring down rain and my legs were burning from climbing up and down stairs, walking down hills, and walking all the way around downtown. I decided it was time to go home. :( But I'm so happy I got to see this place finally! And I apologize for not being able to sit still at all.

Musuem of natural science

I finally got to see the butterflies in the rainforest. It's really small and cool. I had to wait a few minutes for the guide but i had a lot of fun learning about the creatures and things. Now i am snacking on hummus. Woot. EDIT: OMG Thank you Google Maps App on my phone otherwise I would have NEVER found the musuem! Jeez!

Entertainment QotW: Fall Line Up

What T.V. series are you looking forward to starting back up in the fall?

I guess Heroes, since I'm a comic book geek at heart, but I really wish they'd bring back Journeyman too. That was a good show, and a great chaser to Monday night Heroes as well.

I don't get it. Was nobody really watching it? Was there something better on on a Monday night? Or were people really pining for another reality/talent/prime-time game show?

Or was the studio just that dense?

Brach's Malted Milk Balls...

After Nathan's piano lesson yesterday, we went over to the fancy grocery store, since we were so close, to see how the other half lives. They're doing ok. They can still afford to spend over $10 for a 5 lb bag of rice. Not fancy rice like Jasmine or wild rice, just plain old rice. I wonder if they even know how much cheaper it is at a regular grocery store.

While cruising the aisles, laughing at the high prices, I saw a new display. Brach's candy. And not just any Brach's candy, either, they had malted milk balls. Years ago, when I could eat sugar, that was my favorite candy on the planet.

When I was a kid, every once in a while, my mom would pull one of us out of school and take us to downtown Cleveland with her, the big city, because she had to go to my dad's credit union. We'd hop on the bus and be on our way. We'd get the business stuff done quickly and spend the rest of the afternoon having fun. We'd go to this cafeteria for lunch and browse the alley stalls that sold things like mood rings, pet rocks, boot leg cassette tapes and ethnic clothes and food. It was all overwhelming and wonderful for a suburban kid whose closest brush to culture was getting Chinese take-out.

After that, we'd look around the biggest department store I'd ever seen. Higbees. The one and the same Higbee's from "A Christmas Story". They had things I'd never seen before. Microwave ovens, and later Boom Boxes, things like that took a while to trickle into the burbs. On the way out of the store we'd stop at the nut and candy counter for warm cashews and Brach's malted milk balls. The perfect end to a truly exciting day.

When I saw that display yesterday, it was the first time, in the six years it's been since I've had gastric bypass surgery, that I've been tempted to eat candy. I bought half a dozen for DeWitte and Nathan thinking I'd just live vicariously, and only half a dozen because I didn't want to be that vicarious and contemplated tasting just a sliver, just a teeny tiny little bit. In the end, I decided not to. When I've accidentally eaten sugar in the past, picking up someone's soda that I thought was my iced tea or something like that, it doesn't taste good like it used to. It tastes horrible, like drinking maple syrup right from the bottle.

Those memories are sweet enough, why ruin it for a piece of candy. Even if it is the best candy on the planet.
